Gas Hot Water Repairs & Replacement in Berwick

Storage or continuous flow, pilot light out or unit on its last legs — we get the gas hot water flowing again, usually same day.

If you're on mains gas in the South East, chances are a gas hot water unit runs the showers, the kitchen and the laundry. They're a great, low-cost way to heat water — right up until the morning you turn the tap and it runs cold. Borza Plumbing repairs and replaces both gas storage and continuous flow (instantaneous) units, and we keep the common sizes on hand so you're not left waiting around for hot water.

We look after gas hot water for homes, rentals and small commercial sites across Berwick, Pakenham, Narre Warren, Officer and the wider Casey and Cardinia area. Whatever's gone wrong — a pilot light that won't stay lit, a fault code on the controller, weak flow or a tank that's started weeping — you'll get a clear diagnosis, an honest repair-or-replace call, and a fair price before any work starts.

Storage vs continuous flow

A gas storage unit heats and holds a tank of water, ready to go. It's cheap to replace and rock-solid, but the tank slowly wears and eventually corrodes. A continuous flow unit heats water only as you use it, so you never run out, there's no heat lost from a standing tank, and it mounts neatly on an outside wall. Both run on the same mains gas — the right choice comes down to how many people are in the home and how you use hot water.

Common gas hot water faults

Pilot light out

A pilot that keeps dropping out usually points to a tired thermocouple or a dirty pilot — a quick, affordable fix if caught early.

Fault code showing

Continuous flow units flash an error on the controller. We read the code, find the cause and get the hot water back on.

Leaking or rusty tank

Rust streaks or water pooling at the base of a storage tank generally means the unit is on its way out and due for a swap.

We service the common Australian brands every plumber works on — Rinnai, Rheem, Dux, Bosch and Aquamax storage and continuous flow units across the South East.

Gas hot water FAQs

My gas hot water has gone cold — is it the pilot light?

Often, yes. On older storage units a pilot light that keeps going out points to a faulty thermocouple, a dirty pilot assembly or a gas supply problem. On a continuous flow unit a cold run usually shows a fault code on the controller. Either way it is frequently a repair rather than a full replacement — we will diagnose it and tell you straight.

Should I repair my gas hot water unit or replace it?

As a rough guide, a gas storage tank lasts around 8 to 12 years and continuous flow units a fair bit longer. If your unit is well within its years and the fault is a valve, thermocouple or controller, a repair is usually the smart spend. If it is leaking from the tank, badly corroded or past its lifespan, a new unit is the better value. We will give you an honest call either way.

What is the difference between storage and continuous flow gas hot water?

A gas storage system heats and holds water in an insulated tank, ready to use. A continuous flow (instantaneous) unit heats water on demand as it passes through, so you never run out and there is no standing tank to lose heat. Storage is cheap to replace and reliable; continuous flow is compact, wall-mounted and great for busy households.

Can you swap a failed gas hot water unit the same day?

In most cases, yes. Hot water is our specialty and we carry common gas storage and continuous flow sizes, so when a unit cannot be repaired we can usually have you back in hot water the same day you call. Phone 0431 140 988 and we will let you know.
