Licensed Gas Fitting in Berwick & the South East
Gas is nothing to take chances with. Borza Plumbing is a licensed gas fitter for installs, appliances and leaks.
Gas runs a lot of the modern home — the cooktop you rely on every night, the oven, the heater that keeps the family warm through a Melbourne winter, and often the hot water out the back. When any of it is installed or repaired, it has to be done by someone licensed to work on gas. That's not a technicality: a poorly connected appliance can leak, lose efficiency or, in the worst case, put your household at risk of carbon monoxide.
Borza Plumbing is a licensed gas fitter covering Berwick, Pakenham, Narre Warren, Officer and the wider South East. We install and connect gas appliances, run and extend gas lines and bayonets, track down and repair leaks, and test that everything is working safely before we leave. No guesswork, no shortcuts — just gas work done properly and to Australian Standards.
Smell gas? Safety first.
If you can smell gas inside the home, treat it seriously. Turn the appliance off, turn the gas off at the meter if it's safe to reach, and open up windows and doors. Don't flick light switches or use anything electrical — a tiny spark is all it takes. Get everyone out into fresh air, then call us. We'll find the source, make it safe and put it right.

Common gas fitting jobs
From a new cooktop to a full appliance changeover, here's the sort of gas work we handle most.
| Job | What's involved | Why it needs a licensed gas fitter |
|---|---|---|
| Cooktop install | Connect a new gas cooktop, check the burners and seal | An unsealed or under-pressured connection can leak |
| Oven changeover | Remove the old oven, fit and test the new one | Correct fitting and a leak test are required by law |
| Gas heater | Install or connect a space heater or wall furnace | Flue and ventilation must be right to avoid carbon monoxide |
| New gas line | Run pipework to a new appliance location | The line must be sized so every appliance gets enough gas |
| BBQ bayonet | Add an outdoor bayonet point for the barbecue | Outdoor connections still need a licensed, tested fit |

Signs of a gas problem
The smell of gas
A rotten-egg odour near an appliance or the meter means stop, ventilate and call — never ignore it.
A yellow or lazy flame
A healthy gas flame burns crisp and blue. A yellow, flickering or sooty flame points to a problem worth checking.
Headaches or stuffiness
Unexplained headaches, nausea or drowsiness around a running heater can be a sign of carbon monoxide. Get fresh air and call.

I think I can smell gas — what should I do?
Treat it as urgent. Turn off the appliance and the gas at the meter if you can do so safely, open windows and doors, and do not switch lights or anything electrical on or off. Get everyone outside, then call us on 0431 140 988. If the smell is strong or you feel unwell, leave the property and ring your gas distributor’s emergency line first.
Do I really need a licensed gas fitter for a simple appliance swap?
Yes. In Victoria, any work on gas lines or gas appliances must be carried out by a licensed gas fitter — it is not a DIY or general-handyman job. Borza Plumbing is licensed for gas work, so your cooktop, oven or heater is connected safely and to code.
Can you run a new gas line or add a bayonet point?
Yes. We install and extend gas lines for new cooktops, ovens, heaters, hot water units and outdoor BBQ bayonet points. We size the line correctly so every appliance gets the gas pressure it needs without starving the others.
What is carbon monoxide and how do I stay safe?
Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odourless gas that a faulty or poorly ventilated gas appliance can produce. It is why open-flued heaters in particular should be checked regularly. We can test appliances for spillage and recommend a carbon monoxide alarm for added peace of mind.
